How Swan Sanctuary is Supported

While it encourages donations to non-profit organizations such as the Trumpeter Swan Society, to support them in the ongoing education and research, Swan Sanctuary is set up as a sole proprietorship, rather than as a 501C3. Non-profits need to regularly write grants and come up with innovative ideas to solicit donations and maintain their tax-free status. By working for profit, and not as non-profit, a greater service can be provided for the swans. This also eliminates any competition with re-introduction programs and other waterfowl sanctuaries, with which Swan Sanctuary often works.

     * In addition to adoptions, where it is logistically possible, Swan Sanctuary can provide routine care for swan owners.

     * In other cases, it can provide long distance consulting services in regards to swan care and wetland habitat.

      * Swan Sanctuary provides boarding during convalescence and transporting of birds from one location to another.

      * It can also provide capture and transport to a qualified avian veterinarian for pinioning, as well as on site feather clipping.

      * Swan Sanctuary can also be contracted to build traps and pens on site.

      * The sanctuary provides presentations to organizations desiring to know more about swans and their native habitats.

      * Swan Sanctuary also hopes to expand into growing native plants for re-sale, as an additional source of revenue.
